Personally I find the statistics we get about Down's Syndrome somewhat confusing. So I translated them into percentages. I think it is all too easy to think of 1-80 as one in 80%, but it is not. 1-80 translates to 1.25 % for DS, or 98.75% chance of not having Down Syndrome.... Maternal
Let me share my story!
My grandmother gave birth to my auntie when my grandmother was 46 years old.
Since my grandmother was so healthy, doctors said there was no reason she couldn’t carry the baby.
She had a very easy pregnancy, and birth, from what I heard.
And that birth happened over 40 years ago!
So no donor egg here!
Every baby is a blessing, and if the baby is loved and cared for, then who is to judge really?
I am firmly convinced you will be just fine.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
