Fluke baby at 44
Well, my then 43 year old sister-in-law just had her fluke
baby with IVF [in vitro fertilization].
She had three attempts at IVF after miscarriages: a set of twins at 11 weeks, and two singletons over a period of 18 months.
These three attempts resulted in two confirmed pregnancies, one set of twins, and a singleton.
So of 4 embryos transferred all up they resulted in three babies, unfortunately only one live birth, her now 16 week old daughter.
She was born in August.
My sister-in-law had her six week check - and her RE [reproductive endocrinologist] and OB [obstetrician] said don't worry about contraception at all.
Well she didn't, and is now 4.5 weeks pregnant.
It's only her second postpartum cycle after weaning her 16 week old due to failure to thrive.
She found out on her 44th birthday.... Happy Birthday!!! She is happy, of course!!
The miscarriage rate is quite high but the fertilization is still working, just got to get the good egg.
So that's quite a few flukes, wouldn't you say!!
TODAY'S BOOK SUGGESTION:
The Joy of Later Motherhood:Your Natural Path to Healthy Babies Even in Your 40s
by Bettina Gordon-Wayne
-- The much-needed antidote to all the negative hype surrounding motherhood at advanced maternal age (which is 35+).
Written by seasoned journalist Bettina Gordon-Wayne—herself a first-time mom at 44 and the third generation of women in her family who did not get the memo that conceiving a baby after 40 is dangerous, if not outright impossible.
It is written from the perspective of the women who actually achieved what millions of women are striving for: naturally conceiving a healthy baby after 35 and, especially, after 40.
Maybe you are worried or are upset. Maybe you doubt that motherhood will ever happen for you. We get it. We have been there. With our stories, we want to lovingly see you through this journey as much as we can.
