She gave birth to a healthy baby at 44
ZAHARAH (not her real name), 44, had her last child 11 years ago and didn’t expect to have another child — until she re-married in 2003.
A few months into her second marriage she was delighted to discover that she was pregnant because both she and her second husband wanted a child of their own.
“While it may be true that fertility declines with age, I knew that I was still fertile because my periods were regular.”
Five months into her pregnancy, the doctor advised her to go for a structure test to determine whether the child was developing healthily and she was pleased to learn that her baby was normal.
Happily, on July 13, 2004, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Her advice to older mums is not to fret about all the complications of pregnancy and fertility when they are expecting.
