I am 8 weeks along at 44

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Tuesday, October 11, 2011 | 0 comments

When I started having some rough, irregular periods in 2003, I was 41. My chiropractor suggested I try using progesterone cream (all natural, available in any health food store).

Lo and behold, my periods went very smooth and I was preggers in about 2 cycles! This was a wonderful "side effect". I miscarried that baby at 16 weeks, then 2 cycles later I was pregnant again. I used the cream until the last trimester, and my son was healthy and full term.

I started using this cream again, and now I am 8 weeks along at age 44. Most older moms are low on the progesterone, and this is a saliva or blood test your OB can do. I never did the test, because I used the cream for menstrual woes!

When I miscarried, the OB had me on a synthetic progesterone pill, and I didn't use the cream, so I will always wonder if I kept on the cream, would that baby lived? It can make you crazy, so I am still using the cream now.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
