They had 4 children after 40

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Sunday, May 15, 2011 | 0 comments

My husband's grandparents met in the in 1920's. His grandfather had traveled all over the world and had been too busy to marry. His grandmother was a spinster school teacher. They were both in their 40s and got married.

Guess what - they had 4 children. All were healthy. All four went to Ivy League schools (or the female equivalent at the time). One of my father-in-law's sisters was the only female in her law school class in the 1940s.

Father-in-law's brother was a war hero in WWII and countless lives were saved because of him. Father-in-law's other sister taught inner-city children.

I'm forever grateful that my husband's grandparents didn't think they were too old to have children.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
