Discovered she was pregnant at 47

A close friend and colleague of mine had her first child at 29 and then couldn't get pregnant again. They went through all kinds of tests, but nothing conclusive was found. They decided to be content to have an only child. Then when their only child was a senior in high school, my friend discovered she was pregnant at 47.
So in their empty nest years, they were suddenly starting over. They were concerned that this child would be essentially another only child with a sister 18 years older, so they decided to try to get pregnant again.
Three months before her 50th birthday, my friend gave birth to not one, but two babies, fraternal twins! These people are the best parents, and even though they are older, they seem to be loving the chaos in their lives.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
