First pregnancy didn't come until 49

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Friday, May 16, 2008 | 2 comments

One of the mothers in Expecting Miracles is a South-African woman who tells the story of how her first pregnancy didn't come until age 49.

But when she found out she was pregnant with twins she wasn't at all surprised. A year before she conceived, her meditating husband had envisioned a boy and a girl who announced, "We are your unborn children."

These children continued to visit him on Shabbat and on the holidays - the girl outspoken, and the boy silent in his prayer shawl, until his wife conceived.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

these stories of pregnancy late in life are so heart warming - what does age matter whe the children are wanted - some say you are having your grandchildren - rubbish - as long as they are loved and nurtured until the age of 20ish they will then be living thier own lives but will have had the wisdon and patience of older parents

    Totally agree with this comment.

Older parents have the wisdom of time and the time to deal with children.
