I was at the park this afternoon with my children.

I was chatting with a woman there, who had a baby about my Dane's age.

She was also pregnant again...

I, of course, had to ask her age.

She said she was 46 years old - same as me...

She was also a fire-fighter to boot!!

-- We are bombarded by images of blissful older mothers, such as Madonna and Celine Dion.

But Hollywood articles about pregnancy and fertility at middle age gloss over the tremendous amount of financial, emotional, and physical effort faced by couples struggling to conceive.

Ranges from technical to humorous and everything in between.

What are good, snappy comebacks to the question, Why aren't you pregnant? What is the difference between gonadotrophin releasing hormone and progesterone? Should you freeze your eggs?

These questions and many more are answered and in the tone of a couple of good friends.

Between them, the authors have gone through hormone treatments, pregnancy losses, and multiple inseminations -- so they know firsthand the roller-coaster ride of trying to achieve pregnancy.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
