Pregnant, 45 with a 14m son

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Friday, March 14, 2008 | 0 comments

I am pregnant, 45 year old with a 14-month-old son. Our second son due in February. I married for the first time at 43. My husband is two years younger than me, and this is his first marriage as well.

My OB [obstetrician] says he uses me as an example for older women who want to have children. My parents also married in their 40's, and my mom had me, her only child, at 43.

My husband and I feel we have a better chance at a successful marriage and at being good parents, since we've already had the freedom to do anything we wanted and have no resentment over our new responsibilities. We've also had the opportunity to become more financially stable.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
