Unexpected, unwelcome event at 45

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Tuesday, January 29, 2008 | 0 comments

A Midwife’s Tale: November, 1793: More distressing was the behaviour of her old friend and neighbour Elizabeth Weston, who was overwhelmed by her last pregnancy, an unexpected and probably unwelcome event. She was 45 years old, her youngest child already six.

Furthermore, since her daughter Betsy had recently married Thomas Fillebrown, she was more disposed to welcome grandchildren than another child of her own. The summons came on November 9 at 3:00 a.m., and "She was safe delivered at 4 hour 30 minutes of a fine son."

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
