  • Scary Down's Syndrome Statistics?

Personally I find the statistics we get about Down's Syndrome somewhat confusing. So I translated them into percentages. I think it is all too easy to think of 1-80 as one in 80%, but it is not. 1-80 translates to 1.25 % for DS, or 98.75% chance of not having Down Syndrome.... Maternal

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

I married at 41-conceived my daughter after one round of ivf. I had a wonderful pregnancy and delivered a healthy 9.5 girl at age 42. A successful second pregnancy has been more difficult-3 more rounds of ivf resulted in 2 miscarraiges. I just turned 45 and am still hopeful-trying the old fashioned way. I have faith if something is meant to be it will happen regardless of age.

  2. Congrats on having a healthy baby girl at 42! I am so sorry about the loss of your precious babies during your IVF cycles.

Somedays all we have is our faith, our belief in ourselves and our bodies.

I hope you have success soon, and a precious baby safely in your arms.
