I am 24 weeks pregnant at age 45, with children ages 19 ( away at college), 14, and 9. I was trying to conceive because I had remarried and husband#2 had never had kids, but it still was a shock to actually be able to conceive.
Then, I was VERY nervous about abnormalities. We went for the testing because I knew I was the kind of person who would rather have the information than spend my whole pregnancy worrying. Everything has proven to be very normal so far.
My kids have been surprisingly supportive. My friends mostly shake their heads in wonder that I would want to go through all this again, but they too have been supportive.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

I am 8 wks pregnant and almost 45. I have an 18 yr. old, and a 21 yr. old. I was told I was too old to conceive without help, and my fiance was told he was probably sterile due to adult chiken pox and the fact we've been trying for 5 yrs. Is this a miracle? Or is this common. My child is due on my granddaughter's first bday!
I'm 15 weeks pregnant and 44. I have a 22 and a 21 yr old! We tried IVF twice and failed. When we were about to embark on our last IVF try this year, I discovered I was pregnant! My down's risk came back as 1 in 125 so am having an amnio in 2 weeks. Nuchal fold looks perfectly normal though. After amnio we'll be able to really share the joy :)
Grammie - Congratulations on your hard-won pregnancy! I think every pregnancy is a miracle, and yet, over 45 pregnanies are much more common than we are lead to believe.
What a special birthday gift for your granddaughter!
Laura - Congratulations on your pregnancy, even without IVF!
It must be a worry to have regarding Down's Syndrome risks - I hope that you get wonderful news at your amnio, and the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly.
