Getting pregnant at 43 was not part of her career plan

Elizabeth Vargas learned of it just after getting her ABC news job, and "was a little nervous about telling." She kept it quiet, until co-anchor Woodruff was hurt. Getting pregnant was not part of Elizabeth Vargas' career plan.

"This was about as unplanned as it gets," says Vargas, co-anchor of ABC World News Tonight. "I was shocked. I had just signed on to a brand-new job that I was thrilled to have..."
"Also, at 43 1/2, it's not like I was thinking, 'Let's get pregnant.' "

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
