I am 45 & have a new baby boy who is 3m old

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Sunday, March 25, 2007 | 0 comments

I am now 45 and have a five-year old son and a new baby boy who is now 3 months old. We had dismissed the idea of any sort of medical intervention having seen friends go through a lot of stress and have their relationships suffer and in one case end because of the emotional pressures of fertility treatment.

So our first baby was a lovely surprise, and having had him we couldn't imagine life without him. Sadly, [the next] time I miscarried. Luckily I fell pregnant again pretty soon, but it was a difficult pregnancy I think also made worse by my fears following the last experience. Only now can I feel that this is water under the bridge and really enjoy the new baby. - Jane, 45, Wokingham, UK

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
