Between ages 40-48, she gave birth to 5 healthy children
I coped with my loss well, sustained by a positive attitude -- until a month later when a relative (who is a recent medical school graduate) blurted: "You're crazy! It's nearly impossible for someone over 42 to conceive and successfully carry to term."
Devastated, but determined to prove her wrong, I became a mid-life pregnancy success-story junkie -- the most dramatic story being that of an acquaintance's mother who between ages 40-48 gave birth to five healthy children. I signed onto the Internet newsgroup, alt.infertility, and received numerous supportive messages, such as one from a woman outraged by my relative’s declaration.
Her grandmother had had a baby by accident at age 45, and she herself knew "scads" of women over 40 having babies.
