About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

Sure you can be under 40 years old and have 12 kids. Bear in mind, many had first by 17 years old or younger. They had children one right after the other. Just use 2.5 years for each child. Even 12 children, that is 30 years of child bearing. If she started at 17, she would only be 37. I am only 14 months younger than my brother so that isn't even close to the 2.5 years that I alloted in this scenario. i would guess, certain babies were born closer together, others a little further apart. But nevertheless, families needed lots of children back then to survive so popping them out quickly was important.
