I am an oncology nurse, and have a patient that is in her mid-50's now. She was diagnosed with breast cancer (strong family history) a few years ago.
When she was 48, she conceived her first and only child, and delivered a healthy baby girl that is now around seven years old, I think. She and her her husband had tried for a number of years to conceive, and it just never happened. They did explore, briefly, what might have caused their infertility when they were in their mid-thirties, but never had any conclusive answer.
She actually thought she was starting to really go into menopause, but it turned out that she was pregnant.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
